Bactria Cultural Center: Mission and Educational Services
Because of the continuous degradation of Tajikistan’s educational structure, Bactria Cultural Center aims to democratize access to information and education by providing opportunities for learning and vocational training.
With more than 1200 registrations per year for its language classes (English, French) which are taught by an educational team of 14 teachers supervised by an expatriate director of educational programmes, BCC has established itself as a key and complementary structure to pre-existing Tajik educational institutions. BCC also plays a crucial role by disseminating information about scholarships and study programmes abroad to Tajik students
Bactria Cultural Center also combines a series of free services for anyone wishing to develop their skills and gain knowledge about other cultures. Bactria provides:
- A library containing a wide collection of films and books in English, French, German, Russian and Tajik
- Weekly film screenings in the film’s original language with Russian sub-titles,
- Weekly thematic discussion Clubs (French, English) led by native speakers.
- Organization of cultural events related to the languages taught by BCC
These services are very popular and attract a large number of visitors.

CERTIFICATES AND DIPLOMAS
Certificates delivered by Bactria Cultural Center for English and French language courses are all recognized by the Ministry of Education of Tajikistan (license obtained in 2008).
iBT TOEFL (English) – Preparation courses for the test
Bactria Cultural Center offers its students an iBT TOEFL (Internet-Based Test Of English as a Foreign Language) preparation cycle conducted by a native English speaking teacher.
This course aims to familiarize students with the iBT TOEFL process and improve their communication skills in order to be better prepared for the examination. The module’s content includes: grammar and vocabulary exercises, creative writing activities, how to develop oral understanding and expression, etc.
The iBT TOEFL preparation cycles are taught in BCC’s new language laboratory, which is equipped with computers and multimedia tools, as well as with sound and registering systems.
DELF/DALF
As there is no French Alliance or French Institute in Tajikistan, Bactria Cultural Center was accredited by the French Ministry of Education in 2006 as a test centre for the DELF/DALF exams.
DELF (Diplôme d’études en langue française) and DALF (Diplôme approfondi de langue française) exams are official diplomas awarded by the French Ministry of Education. Based on standardized exams, they certify competency in French language skills of foreign candidates and French people who are born in non-French-speaking countries and do not hold a French secondary or higher education diploma. Standardized and recognized at the international level, these diplomas are necessary for those who plan to study at a French university.
There are 4 independent DELF diplomas, each corresponding to the four levels of the European framework of reference for languages: A1, A2, B1, B2.
There are 2 independent DALF diplomas, each corresponding to the two highest levels of the European framework of reference for languages: C1, C2.
At each level, the 4 following skills are evaluated: oral comprehension, oral expression, reading comprehension and written expression.
Since the 6 diplomas that constitute DELF/DALF are totally independent, candidates can register for the test of their choice, considering their level in French.
