Bactria Cultural Centre, as a contemporary artistic space, serves as a catalyst by providing opportunities to local artists to express their creativity in an entirely free and experimental way. At present it is the only venue in Dushanbe that encourages artists to apply innovative approaches to manifest their artistic visions.  
 
  Art Education
 
Bactria Cultural Centre, as the cultural actor of ACTED’s activities, is fully devoted to provide access to information and to vocational training. Educational activities aimed at artists and art professionals are organized with the firm belief that an understanding of national identity as well as social changes and development can originate from active participants of society. The role of an artist is, and always has been, the observer, the analyzer, and the initiator.  
 
  Library
 
One of the main information points in Bactria is its library, which has a collection of books in Tajik, Russian, English, German and French, focusing on mostly culture and history. Art books on the works of Michelangelo, Levitan, Vrubel, Aivazovsky, Theophanes the Greek, movies of Russian and Western avant-garde, and Italian Renaissance are the most valued pieces of the collection.

COURSES FOR PUBLIC/PRIVATES ORGANISATIONS AND AGENCIES

Bactria Cultural Center also offers private language courses and specialized courses for Embassies, international organizations, NGOs, governmental agencies and private companies in the Dushanbe area.

WORKSHOPS FOR UNIVERSITY FRENCH TEACHERS OF DUSHANBE

With the aim of strengthening its collaboration with the universities of Dushanbe and improving the quality of French teaching in Tajikistan, Bactria Cultural Center offers weekly training workshops to all French teachers of Dushanbe’s universities and learning centers, for the duration of the academic year.

The training is divided in two complementary modules:

  • Module 1 : Methodologies and communication approaches in Foreign language teaching (twice a month), initiation to new teaching techniques
  • Module 2 : Linguistic upgrade in general French language

The training is free of charge for all teachers working in Dushanbe’s universities or learning centres. It occurs every Thursday and offers all actors involved in French language teaching the opportunity to improve their professional skills and discover innovative teaching approaches as well as the use of multimedia teaching tools.

 

ANNUAL MEETING OF FRENCH TEACHERS

In the framework of its partnership with the French Embassy, Bactria Cultural Center does not restrict its mission of promoting French language and improving the quality of French teaching to the Dushanbe area. Indeed, it strives to extend its action to the rest of the country by strengthening the network of French teachers in Tajikistan. To this extent, BCC organizes the country-wide Annual Meeting of French Teachers.

This seminar is a unique opportunity provided to Tajikistan’s French teachers to gather and discuss the situation and the challenges faced by French teaching actors in the country. Bactria Cultural Center sets itself as a spokesman or all of them, and gives them the chance to organize themselves into associations in order to promote French language as well as to enhance communication between relevant institutions and improve their skills by gathering their resources.

First organized in 2007 to provide the opportunity to French teachers of Dushanbe to meet with each other and share their experiences, the seminar today focuses on discussing the problems faced in the profession and finding solutions to improve the quality of French teaching not only in Dushanbe, but also in Tajikistan’s remote areas.

Led by Bactria Cultural Center’s French staff, representatives from the French Embassy in Tajikistan and coordinators of exchange programmes for students and other French-speaking people, the 2012 meeting informed teachers about the grants and scholarship offers to Tajik students.

GRANTS, SCHOLARSHIPS AND EXCHANGE PROGRAMMES
  Music
 
Bactria Cultural Centre is engaged in projects that further capacity building and development of music industry in Tajikistan. First of all, it offers a venue to musicians through the organization of regular concerts where they can freely practice their creativity. We impose no limitation in the direction of musical genres, but we do promote world music and experiments based on the combination of traditional and contemporary music.

  Heritage
 
If the context allows, Bactria Cultural Centre uner the auspices of ACTED, carries out heritage conservation and rehabilitation activities, if the heritage in question has been damaged or suffers from a lack of maintenance due to the difficulties facing the communities.  
 
  Language Courses
 

As a result of the continuous degradation of Tajik educational structure, from a unified primary and secondary education under the Soviets, barely 60 percent of Tajikistan’s current school-age population is receiving educational opportunities. Through opportunities for learning and vocational training BACTRIA aims at democratizing access to information and education.
